SMX is seeking a Python Developer to be responsible for the design, development, and support of custom internal applications to support highly visible global public policy initiatives. You will be a key member of our team providing design and development expertise across multiple projects. The successful candidate is a lifelong learner that can collaborate successfully within a small team but will also need to work independently to drive results. You are excited about innovating but have strong attention to detail. The responsibilities will include Python development to support existing functionality as well as new, innovative solutions in support of PEPFARs mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop custom components and modules supporting PEPFARs MicroStrategy implementation using Python

  • Apply good software design and development practices in daily activities

  • Write comprehensive technical design specifications and support documentation

  • Suggest new technologies and approaches, often demonstrating and championing their use

  • Estimate the duration and level of effort of development tasks

  • Ensure successful implementation, value recognition and customer satisfaction

  • Adhere to proscribed and best-practice standards and guidelines for design and development

  • Collaborate with other developers on the design, development, and deployment strategies to support assigned tasks

Required Skills:

  • Experience with Python libraries (e.g. Conda, Poetry, SQLAlchemy)

  • Foundational cloud experience in AWS

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex Python problems and their interaction with other tools

  • Experience with business analytic and reporting tools, preferably MicroStrategy

  • Experience with Javascript, preferably React

  • Demonstrated knowledge of webserver applications like IIS and Tomcat

  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop and deploy applications using Python

  • Problem-solving: verbal, and written communication, design, development, and debugging skills

  • Basic understanding of security implementation and data protection

  • Team player, with the ability to work remotely and independently

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three years' experience designing, building, and delivering in Python

  • Minimum of two years experience using and developing applications with a variety of Python libraries (Conda, Poetry, SQLAlchemy, others)

  • Bachelors degree in Design, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
